To evaluate the real-world performance of the SpatiX X5 GNSS receiver, SpatiX's local partner Vertex Ingeniería conducted the third X5 field test in Colombia, focusing on two challenging scenarios: dense vegetation and urban environments.
The first part of the field test took place under heavy tree cover.
Dense vegetation can reduce satellite visibility and introduce additional challenges for GNSS positioning. Compared with open-sky conditions, receivers operating beneath trees may experience signal attenuation, obstruction and multipath effects.
During the test, the SpatiX X5 was used in this demanding environment, with the positioning result reaching approximately 25 mm.
The test provided a practical evaluation of the X5 in a scenario commonly encountered in surveying, mapping and other outdoor positioning applications.
The field test then moved into an urban environment surrounded by trees, buildings and other potential GNSS signal obstructions.
Urban environments can present a different set of challenges. Buildings and other structures may block or reflect satellite signals, while trees and surrounding infrastructure can further reduce the availability of clear GNSS signals.
By testing the X5 in this type of environment, Vertex Ingeniería was able to evaluate the receiver under conditions that are closer to those encountered during everyday field operations.
Laboratory specifications provide important information about a GNSS receiver, but field testing helps demonstrate how positioning technology performs in practical conditions.
